Edgerton Hospital to Offer Massage Therapy

Edgerton Hospital’s rehabilitation department is pleased to announce the addition of Massage Therapy to its list of services. Licensed Massage Therapist and Physical Therapy Assistant, Katie Ackerman, will be scheduling appointments in a private massage room at Edgerton Hospital, 11101 N. Sherman Rd., Edgerton.  Payments for services will be taken at the time of visit: 30 minutes - $36, 60 minutes - $55, or 90 minutes - $85.  Guests can choose from the following types of massages: Swedish, Deep Tissue, Prenatal Massage, Sports, or Migraine Relief.  Appointments can be made by calling the rehabilitation department at 608-884-1390.

While traditionally massage has been found in luxury spas, the popularity of the service is shifting to different venues like hospitals, clinics, malls, and even airports.  According to Mayo Clinic, studies of the benefits of massage demonstrate that it is an effective treatment for reducing stress, pain and muscle tension.

While more research is needed to confirm the benefits of massage, some studies have found massage may also be helpful for:

  • Anxiety
  • Digestive disorders
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Headaches
  • Insomnia related to stress
  • Myofascial pain syndrome
  • Soft tissue strains or injuries
  • Sports injuries
  • Temporomandibular joint pain

Beyond the benefits for specific conditions or diseases, many people enjoy massage simply as a way to relax, rejuvenate, and energize.  Please note that massage isn't meant as a replacement for regular medical care. Let your doctor know you're trying massage and be sure to follow your standard treatment plans.
