As the new construction continues to progress, other initiatives are taking place. Nurse management personnel met with a representative of the nurse communication system to ensure that all the latest technologies were explained. Additionally, a mock patient room has been erected to allow clinical personnel to “dry run” patient care activities in an effort to fine tune the layout, outlets and devices. We’re also touring every couple weeks with board members to keep them aware of the building progression, answer questions, and to mingle with the trades personnel. Let’s keep that good weather coming!

August 25th, 2010As we’re making the most out of this fabulous weather, the iron workers are moving right along. Steel decking arrived today. As soon as the steel erection, plumbing, and leveling is complete, the decking can begin. We’re going to have the trees along highway 59 between Sherman road and our new entrance removed. This will enhance safety for motorists, helicopter (Med-Flight) traffic, and give greater exposure to the facility.

August 23rd, 2010The project is really beginning to take shape. Elevator shafts have been erected and much of the concrete work is complete. The first structural steel arrived this morning along with a second crane. Over the next two weeks, all the structural steel beams and columns will be erected followed by concrete decking. Final back filling will commence following the steel and decking. Slow down when you drive by there’ll be lots to see shortly.

August 9th, 2010A great deal of work continues this week with the completion of the basement walls and frost walls. This week’s focus will be on finish grading in the basement and beginning the below grade plumbing along with masonry block work that will establish the elevator shafts. The last rains set our schedule back a week and we’re hoping to start steel work on August 16th. Let’s hope that these rains subside.

July 30th, 2010The building is definitely taking shape. The basement walls are roughly half finished and steel should begin arriving next week. Weather permitting, all basement walls will be completed by the end of next week, followed by drain tile and weather proofing. Concurrent with the building structural activities is the road improvements, site utilities, and geothermal well drilling. Rough plumbing in the basement area will also begin soon. We’ll keep you updated as to new developments!

July 22nd, 2010Building activities are progressing nicely with many disciplines working concurrently now. The elevator pit and shafts are formed and the basement walls are being poured. Road improvements to highway 59 have begun with the creation of deceleration lanes along highway 59. Sherman Road improvements will be done next. Geothermal bore drilling also continues as there will be 270 + borings at a depth of 195 feet each. Structural steel was inspected by Tom Freeman and Liz Wells, of Gilbane, on Monday, 7/19, in Minneapolis. The steel should start arriving on the job site at the end of July.

July 12th, 2010As the many scattered showers continue to miss us, the construction workers continue to make up lost time. Presently the basement walls are being formed and poured. Additionally, column pads and strip footings are also being formed and poured for the in-patient wing. The Gilbane Building Company will keep maximizing the schedule as weather permits. We’re still on track to begin steel structural erection early in August.

July 5th, 2010Hats off to the Gilbane Building Company, R.G. Huston, and J.P. Cullen for maximizing their efforts during this past dry spell! Column footings are now in place, along with the elevator base pad and sump drain base. The additional basement space has now been excavated and incorporated into the overall basement work. This week’s activities will focus on strip footings and basement walls. We’re all hoping for favorable weather!

June 25th, 2010I’m pleased to announce that we’ve finally got the basement footing area stabilized and can now move forward with cement work. A formation of silt soil needed to be excavated and replaced with more suitable material. Attached is a picture of Dan Clausen of Gilbane Building Company briefing Board Chair Jim Schultz on the building progress.
Have a great weekend!
